TOMAR AND THE FCS

Tomar and the FCs is a soul band from Austin, Texas formed in 2015. Tomar Williams
got his start singing lead on the Chitlin Circuit with his family band, spent decades as a
keyboardist and backup vocalist (Latasha Lee and the Black Ties, Hot Butter Rhythm),
and is an experienced hip-hop producer (Carnival Beats, Mike Jones, Big Moe).
The band made its live debut in March of 2015. They self-recorded and released their
first EP “Day by Day” in October. The Austin American-Statesman picked it as a top
release and wrote that “Williams shows his own soul chops with searing vocals that drip
with blood, sweat and tears.”

2016 saw the band become mainstays on the Austin scene and throughout Texas. In
March, they were selected to play an official showcase at SXSW. In June, NPR Music
picked Tomar and the FCs out of hundreds of Austin entries to represent the city for
their Tiny Desk Concert Series.

“Heart Attack,” the band’s debut album, was released in November of 2016. It was
recorded and mixed at Level One studio with Grammy-winning artist/engineer Adrian
Quesada. KUTX wrote that the album is “Pure soul, pure energy…Heart Attack, the
single from the band’s latest album of the same name, is an electric three minute ride of
some of the purest blues/soul we’ve heard lately.”

In January of 2017, the band was selected as the KUTX Artist of the Month and were
asked to play iconic Austin record store Waterloo Record’s first in-store performance of
the year. The band had a number of festival appearances in 2017, including River
Revival, Eastside Kings, F1 Circuit of the Americas and Viva Big Bend, all culminating
with an appearance at Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL). They were selected as
the Austin Music Foundation’s artist of the month for September and Austin 360’s Artist
of the Month for October.

In early 2018, the band was voted in the top five of the Austin Chronicle’s Music Poll for
Best Blues, Funk, or Soul Artist. In March, they returned to SXSW performing as official
artists and were awarded a prestigious Black Fret nomination. In addition to a busy
performance schedule, with an appearance at Old Settler’s Music Festival and three
summer tours, the band is hard at work on their third recording.
